  • Loose dentures : Dentures are worn by patients who don’t have teeth, but sometimes they are not satisfied with Dentures as they rock in the mouth and move as we eat food causing lot of irritation to patient and impaired efficiency of chewing food.

Working Of Dentures

Before understanding the working of the dentures the fact that we must keep in mind is that every mouth structure is different henceforth the denture that suits one’s mouth may not be preferable for other. Your dentist takes an impression of your mouth structure and prepares the dentures suitable for it. An acrylic base with the resemblance of flesh colour is fitted over the gums of the patient. The lower part of the upper denture covers the palate while that of the below denture is given the shape of horseshoe to contain you’re your tongue.

Types Of Dentures

There are three types of dentures:

Immediate Denture

As the name suggests it is inserted immediately after your teeth is removed by dentist. They save you from the embarrassment of being without teeth. Their durability is however small as the bone to which they are attached heals itself with time thereby making the denture loose. When the denture becomes loose visit your dentist for relining.

Partial Denture

They act as a substitute for the dental bridges. Attached to a metal framework. There are times when crowns are placed instead of your natural teeth and they serve as a support to your dentures.

Conventional full denture

The most common and widely used type of denture by the old people who lose all their teeth completely or partially and incur problem while speaking and eating opt for a full denture. Your dentist prepares it after studying the whole mouth structure and till that time provides you with immediate denture.

Pulp Vitality Test

These are doen by applying hot and cold to the tooth and pain response is tested. Pulp vitality can be done with a pulp vitality tester also.

Dental X-rays

x-rays are taken for the affected tooth and seen for any periapical infection

Palpation

Intraoral palpation and extraoral palpation is done to confirm the diagnosis.

Risks and Complications

Root canal treatment is one of the least risky treatment with negligible complications. Root canal failure or re-infection can occur after some years of root canal treatment. This happens if filling or crown over the tooth which is root canal treated is not good or root canal filling is not sufficient. Sometimes root canal file can break while doing the procedure. Then we have to either take the broken file out of the tooth or if not possible then we have to bypass the file and continue with root canal.

Expected Outcome

Root canal treatment brings relief to pain and hot and cold sensitivity to the tooth. You can enjoy your food for many more years to come. The infection in the tooth and bone is healed which brings the end to the agony suffered for so long.

At Rohit Dental Clinic, we lay out a custom plan for you in long term which can help you have a healthy & untreated smile always. Process For Extraction

One must not panic with this situation thinking that even after taking good care of their teeth they are facing this dental problem because it is a natural phenomenon. You must trust your dentist and should take treatment and medicines recommended by him. It is not a prolonged treatment. The patient takes hardly a week to recover after the surgery if he follows his dentist’s instructions.

  • Anaesthesia : The most widely accepted method is by making use of Anaesthesia. It may be local, general or sedative. Each of its type works profoundly in lessening the pain or rather making the patient simply unaware about the gruesome pain that they witness during extraction.
  • Making Flaps for Exposure : The whole process followed involves making a cut on your skin which is near the tooth making flaps for the exposure. There might be a removal of the bone that is blocking the way to wisdom tooth if any such bone exists.
  • Breaking in Parts : The tooth is generally separated into parts for effective removal part by part.
  • Tooth Removal : The tooth is gradually removed and the area infected is cleaned.
  • Suturing : There might be stitches around the area that was wounded.
  • Final Dressing : Placement of a protective layer is done to prevent bleeding from the point of extraction.

Risks and Complications

Contact your dentist if you have any problem regarding medication. If you face any strange symptom do not be afraid to visit him. Some of the risks & complications involve:

  • Pain & Fever : Fever and two three days persistence of slight pain are common symptoms.
  • Dry socket : Sometimes there is no development of blood clot which leads to formation of dry socket.
  • Nerve Injury : Some patients experience numbness for very long periods due to nerve injury.
  • Infection : Some patients also develop infections which can lead to delayed healing and yellow discharge from the extraction site.
  • Bleeding : High amount of bleeding is one specific complication which needs to be addressed by the denstist Other than these if you face some painful symptoms like bleeding in nasal passage, numbness, pus in medicated area and prolonged swelling your dentist must be contacted. You should not delay visiting him.

Care After Dentures

  • Never let your dentures dry out : When you are not using dentures place them in the cleansing solution for dentures.
  • Brush Your Dentures : Brushing your dentures regularly will prevent them from plaque and unwanted sticky food material.
  • Brush your Mouth Well : Brushing your mouth well will prevent any further development of plaque. Brushing your gums and tongue daily are also very important.
  • Dentist Visits : Consult your dentist in case of any type of inconvenience caused by your dentures. If you develop a crack or chip in your denture visit your dentist and don try to repair it yourself.

For a few weeks the dentures will feel uncomfortable but gradually your saliva, muscles of your cheek and tongue will adjust accordingly. The irritation caused in the beginning days due to its adjustment is quite normal but if you experience a burning sensation then consult your dentist. Dentures need to be adjusted according to the size of your mouth. Therefore if your age develops so does your mouth which requires rebasing and relining of your dentures. For ensuring durability to your Dentures you must visit your dentist once in six months.

Removable partial dentures

Removable partial dentures use plastic teeth to replace missing teeth. These plastic teeth are fixed on an acrylic plate and clasps are placed in the plate to take support from adjacent teeth.

  • Basic Procedure : In this technique impressions are taken and then bite record is done on second sitting, then a try in is done to check the prosthesis before final insertion
  • Time Required : 3-5 days

Full mouth reconstruction involves various techniques to reconstruct the mouth which may involve aligning of teeth with invasiline, metal braces. Smile correction with veneers, crowns, bonding. Reconstruction of mutilated teeth with tooth colored fillings, inlays, onlays and crowns.

Time required

  • Time required depends upon the procedure of reconstruction to be done.
  • If full mouth implants has to be done we can finish the treatment in 3-5 days from placing of implants to fixing of teeth.
  • Bridges require 3-4 days from taking of impression to fixing of teeth.
  • Veneers requires 2-3 weeks from taking of impressions to final fixing on to the teeth.

Endosteal Implants

Process comprising of surgically placing the implants directly into your jawbone. As soon as the gum tissues have healed upto a significant level further step of surgery that connects the post to the implant is done. Lastly an artificial tooth(teeth) is attached to the post individually or grouped on a bridge.

Subperiosteal Implants

The only difference from Endosteal implants is that this process involves placing of a metal frame instead of directly the implants. This frame gradually fuses with the jawbone and then the same process is followed.
